Right out of the box I knew I was going to like this one. As a union carpenter, I've used a few brands through the company I work for. (Rigid, DeWalt, Makita, even Ryobi) And to me it's not about the good things, it's about the bad. DeWalts torque and noise level are scary, Rigid is just a massive/hard to maneuver, etc. And then others load their saws with garbage to make it seem like its got all the bells and whistles, to cover up the fact it can't make a decent cut (eh hem hitachi).
The Milwaukee was shipped in a heavy-duty box with loads of heavy molded styrofoam. It was perfectly square out of the box, and the tables and fences were totally flat. I made sure the blade was tight with a nice tool Milwaukee supplies that clips out of the way right on the saw so no more looking for a 1/2 wrench or channel-locks. And for those wondering, the saw comes with a 60 tooth blade which cuts ok, but most will want to upgrade. The lights are very cool and run independently on their... Read more

I have only had this saw about a month. It is probably the best saw on the market in this price range. It is so smooth in every aspect. I like the work lights real well and the digital miter readout is a plus. I really like the bevel adjustment. The bevel adjustment is very easy to use.
I mounted this on a new Bosch T4B gravity stand and am very happy so far. I was leaning toward buying a Bosch saw for quite a while, but when I saw this new model from Milwaukee I knew immediately this was the saw for me.
Now, there are a couple of things Milwaukee should have done better. The right fence is removable but does not slide. If anyone has an explanation for this please post your thoughts. The saw should have came with a vise or clamp of some kind. There is not even an accessory available for this saw. The dust bag attachment should have came with an adapter for a shop vac hose. It is not perfect but compared to others in this price range I don't think you can go wrong.

First step was to make a base out of plywood and mount this magic beast on my portable tool stand. Bolted it down and fired it up.
I have never written a review on any type of power saw where my first complaint was the stock blade that shipped with the unit. Boy was I in for a surprise with Milwaukee. Blade cut a heavy piece of oak like cheese and the finish was almost good enough for the fine work I need to do. The blade will get replaced with a thin kerf 100 tooth when I start cutting exotic hardwood but for the average job it is excellent.
Next step, have all the tools handy for adjusting the saw. Cut 90 degree 45 bevels and 45 miters then check the angles and see how much of my Sunday is going to be spent wrestling the beast into alignment.
Follow this by putting all the tools away cracking a beer and lighting a cigar. Every cut was dead on true. No complaints about the fence and lack of clamps.. if you are a true craftsman then making up a couple of face boards,... Read more

This review is from: DEWALT DW716 15 Amp 12-Inch Double-Bevel Compound Miter Saw (Tools & Home Improvement)
OK so lets make something clear really quick before I talk about the saw. A lot of carpenters ask me what I think the best saw is. Depends on what you do for a living and how you do it. No tool manufacture makes every tool they have in thier line perfect. For example the Dewalt 12" slider is very inaccurate, but this saw is not. The Bosch jigsaws are amazing tools but Bosch's 10" slider is always a pain to stay square and just doesnt hold up for finsih trim work. With that said here is my review on the DW716. I need two saws for being a finish carpenter. A 12" non sliding miter saw for cutting big material and big crown and base in position. All resonably portable 12" sliding saws have blade deflection due to the rail and 12" blade, but i need the capability os a 12" blade. I also have a Hitachi 10" slider that I love if I am doing a huge 8-10" crown, paneling, or lid work or small cuts with base cap or even large casing. I've beat the crap out of the DW716, cut miles of... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars High Quality Miter Saw, October 9, 2005
A Professional Consumer (Peoria, IL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: DEWALT DW716 15 Amp 12-Inch Double-Bevel Compound Miter Saw (Tools & Home Improvement)
I was ready to upgrade from my Delta 10" miter to a 12", but was waiting for Dewalt to come out with a laser system. I bought this DW716 about 2 weeks ago and so far I love it. I opted NOT to get the sliding miter, since they are not as accurate as the non-sliding, especially for making furniture. This saw is very powerful and smooth, and the laser works well, though it took a while to get it set up (the instructions are marginal at best, leaving you to twiddle with it for an hour or more to try to get it to line up in every direction).

One thing I HIGHLY recommend is a RIDGID MS-UV miter stand. I found one at Home Depot and it is the best miter saw stand on the market, and very reasonably priced. It folds and unfolds easily, and the wheels make mobility great. It is MUCH better than the Dewalt or the Delta miter saw stands. Why Dewalt doesn't have a folding one with wheels is beyond me, and the Delta one is just too small for a 12" miter. The combination of a stand and a... Read more

This review is from: DEWALT DW716 15 Amp 12-Inch Double-Bevel Compound Miter Saw (Tools & Home Improvement)
I purchased this as a replacement when my original De Walt single bevel 12" mitre saw bit the dust in November, right in the middle of a large deck job. I probably could have repaired the old one but it owed no service, having been with me for over 10 years in remodeling. A carpenter friend on my job last spring purchased the De Walt sliding compound 12" and I had a lot of chances to test drive its capabilities. It was an impressive saw, but it seemed like we really didn't use the sliding feature that much, with the exception of the oak stair treads...it was a great help on that task.

Under the gun to have a mitre saw, I quickly but intensely researched the sliders on the market and read every review I could find (including those at Amazon, thank you very much, fellow woodworkers). What worried me the most about them is, across the board, there seemed to be issues about accuracy due to play in the slider mechanism. Since I do custom work of all types, from framing to... I agree with the other two reviews. When my stand arrived I almost returned it when I saw it was made in China. Very glad I didn't. Easy to assemble and very sturdy. My only complaint, because I have a small shop, is that it is over 4 feet long with extensions retracted. My old Delta Sidekick stand was only a little over 2 feet. The plus is that it extends to over 9 feet, which is nice. My Bosch 4410L miter saw fits perfectly. Don't hesitate to buy this well-made piece of equipment.

5.0 out of 5 stars stand just arrived, November 3, 2007

This review is from: Denali Miter Saw Stand (Tools & Home Improvement)
I took a chance and bought this Denali stand which was priced about half ($90.00 bucks w/Amazon free shipping)the price of some other stands I`ve been eyeballing and I must say my initial reaction is this thing is built to last and is very simple and well thought out. The previous guy said buy this stand and so do I! For the money it is an excellent product that seems to be underpriced but time will tell how she holds up.
I have a giant 12" Makita dual compound slider that I have mounted on the stand and it just makes the mounting depth(from front to back)of the brackets that clamp to the stand. NOTE: (The company recomends not putting a 12" slider on this stand)although the manual states the stand has a 200lb. max weight capacity. When mounted this big saw looks right at home and is very stable through all its motions. I removed the factory rubber feet from my saw base and used a strip of vinyl cove base to sandwich between the saw and the brackets to eliminate any slippage and... Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Not very much impressed.....!, December 24, 2007

This review is from: Denali Miter Saw Stand (Tools & Home Improvement)
I'll agree with the other reviews that this is good for the money. Doesn't take much time to install and it's strong enough to hold my 10 inch saw.
My only complain is about the mechanism that hold the rollers. Those rollers are held by sliding arms. In my case, one of the rollers keep tilting way off level because the hole that slides through is much bigger than it supposed to be. This gives me some hard time to keep the other end of a trim board level when I'm cutting it on an angle. They need to make better design to attach the sliding arm to the body and stay level the way it supposed to be..
